Pifarro: 1623, The Year the Music Died

  • Immanuel Church Highlands 2400 West 17th Street Wilmington, DE, 19806 United States (map)

Three giants of English Renaissance music died in 1623 – William Byrd, Thomas Weelkes, and Philip Rosseter. This era reached its pinnacle during their lifetimes; after them came a massive shift in music.

Guest vocalists include soprano Sarah Yanovitch Vitale, mezzo-soprano Kim Leeds, and bass-baritone Max Tipton. Wind players Margaret Owens, Stephanie Corwin, and Héloïse Degrugillier augment our core band. They and lutenists Mark Rimple, Charles Weaver and Grant Herreid – three of the most agile and expressive renaissance lute players in the country – will bring the apex of Renaissance music in England to life.

  • Madrigals and anthems by Thomas Weelkes (O Jonathan, Come sirrah Jacke hoe)
