Shortly after arriving in Leipzig in the summer of 1723, Bach composed two cantatas within a month of each other. The 2018 Discovery Series, led by Back Bay Chorale Music Director Scott Allen Jarrett, examines the two works written during this formative time in Bach’s life. The second installment, “Herr, gehe nicht ins Gericht mit deinem Knecht,” is often considered to be the first cantata wholly composed in Leipzig and features a joyful tenor aria.
